Beijing has a continental climate with cold dry winters and hot summers. The coldest month is January, with a daily mean of -10 oC (13 oF). The warmest month is July. The average temperature of July is 32 oC (90 oF).
The electric current used in China is 220V 50Hz. Hotels provide 220V and 110V (shavers only) power outlets. Please note that plug adapters and converters might be required.
Currency and Exchange
The national Chinese currency is Renminbi (RMB). All payments for goods and services throughout China must be done in Renminbi Yuan, or by major credit cards. Most shopping malls, hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards including Visa, American Express, Master Card, and JCB. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks or currency exchange offices at the airport, hotels. Exchange rates are always posted.
Public Transportation in Beijing
Buses are the main means of transportation in Beijing. Please prepare changes before taking a bus. Buses may be very crowded during peak times at 07:00 - 09:00 and 16:00 - 18:00.
There are currently 17 subway lines and an Airport Express in Beijing. The fare is between RMB 3 and RMB 9 based on the distance. The fare for the Airport Express is RMB 25. It is very convenient to transfer from one subway line to another.
Taxis in Beijing have several colours. All of them show a taximeter inside. You can easily find them in every part of Beijing. All Taxis will charge RMB 2.3 per kilometre with a base rate or minimum charge of RMB 13.
